Availability
his easily absorbed transdermal cream is a complex
combination of herbal extracts, nutraceuticals, vitamins, and
minerals that work together as a feminine intervention formula
to address menopause and PMS, as well as assisting in relieving
symptoms associated with osteoporosis. Reforma relieves
menopausal symptoms such as hot flashes, emotional instability,
and induces menses. We do not make this particular formula -- it is the creation of American nutraceutical formulator, Dr. Donal Joseph Carter, and it has received broad praise from clinicals we have spoken with who have used the product with their patients. Although a complete list of ingredients is displayed in the right column, special mention of the more active components should be helpful. Central to this formula is the inclusion of natural progesterone, derived from Mexican Wild Yam. (Other competing products claim the exclusive use of Mexican Wild Yam -- diascorea mexicana, not to be confused with diascorea villosa). Progesterone helps relax the muscles and promote glandular balance in women, but primary reason for its inclusion is that during menopause, progesterone levels gradually drop to almost zero, while estrogen, with which it works in concert, drops to about 40%. This creates an imbalance that generates many of the symptoms of menopause. (John R. Lee, M.D., a noted pioneer in the field of progesterone therapy, says that taking natural progesterone lowers the risk of osteoporosis, PMS, fibrocystic breast conditions, ovarian cysts, miscarriage, menopausal symptoms, and breast and endometrial cancers). Note that this product contains no synthetic progestin, important to note since the latest research shows that "estrogen plus progestin, a common feature of hormone replacement therapy, doesn't protect women against postmenopausal CHD (coronary heart disease). In fact, recent studies show that this therapy actually increases cardiac risk." 1 How to Use This Product / Warnings
As a transdermal, you simply apply
Reforma after bathing to any number of soft epithelial tissue
areas of the body: face, breasts, stomach, or inner thighs.
If you are pregnant or think you may become pregnant, consult your
physician before using this or similar products. For external
use only. Keep out of reach of children. Dietary Compliments
On the estrogen side, the use of
soy beverages with a high isoflavone count, have been shown to be quite
helpful. (Read the scientific study review on soy and estrogen replacement
therapy by Dr.
Suzanne Paxton). A soy isolate product, such as
Ketozyne, can
additionally provide weight loss benefits, in addition
to the
nutraceutical benefits
of its soy-based components.
Women who suffer from PMS should also reflect on the make-up of their dietary fat, a subject we cover more fully in our discussion of essential fatty acids (EFA's). (See flax seed). In addition to utilizing products, such as flax, that provide the body with sufficient EFA's, women should be careful to avoid trans-fatty acids, from sources such as shortening and margarine. Remember, too, that even if you are conscientious at home in this regard, you negate much of the benefit of sticking to your regimen if you eat out and the restaurants you frequent cook with trans-fatty acids. You're the paying customer -- never feel afraid to ask. Footnotes
