eatfree is a Canadian version of a
meat replacement product ("Heartline")
in the U.S. We chose this product as the 'meat replacement
in the kitchen' companion to Daibutsu -
our soy protein, between-meal snack product. Like Daibutsu, Meatfree has unique chemopreventive properties, common to most soy protein products: relative to both cancer and heart disease. Meatfree, made from pure defatted soy flour, is high in all four isoflavones, including the potent anti-cancer compound, genistein. There is no added MSG, hydrogenated oils, or nitrates. The formula was tested at The Center for Advanced Food Studies at Rutgers University, and was found to contain higher levels of genistein than any other product tested. (Genistein is unique to soybeans.) Meatfree tastes great and has been well-received by the media (see Health Product News review from March, 1998). One package costs $2.99 and makes one and a half pounds of "meat." Granted, most meat replacements don't measure up to consumer expectations. This one does. (By the way, our staff's personal favorite is the Chicken Style.) Order from our Virtual Store today. |
Easy to Prepare
Meatfree can be eaten
straight from the box, but is designed to cook for 10 to 15 minutes
in purified water - where it 'reconstitutes,' triples in weight
(through moisture absorption), and takes on the
amazing properties of real meat products.
